It is now 10 months that I have stayed in Germany away from my family. I am very glad and happy that my voluntary year I s coming to an end. It has been a long way for me to reach at this point of time. Nevertheless, my voluntary year in Germany will be a memorable story to tell, because this kind of opportunity is rare to find.
I am now with new family of which I am very happy to stay with her, she is really a good woman who deserves to be called a mother. It is now 2 months that I have stayed with her. She taught me how to knit and right now I am knitting a summer top which I am looking forward to finish by the end of May. When I changed the family, I thought life was going to be hard for me since, she is quite old and that she stays alone, but to my surprise it is the opposite of what I was thinking. Whenever I am with her, it makes her think I do not get bored or maybe thinking much about home instead, the life just flows normally like at home in Zambia where I have siblings and parents who make me busy with talking. She really makes sure that everything is good with me and for that reason I truly love her because she makes me to feel at home as it is difficult to get used of the person you do not know very well, but with her, I have a precious life.
Life is good with me though I spend much of the time working in the hospital of which I feel good, but sometimes it is very stressful for me because I work more. Nevertheless, I understand because this is the kind of life I will live for the rest of my life to be working in the hospital. I am still learning new things in the hospital of are making more and more to like working in the hospital. During my stay in Germany I have really enjoyed some things that are happening which we do not do in Zambia. In February I liked the carnival event, it was my first time to see it and therefore I really liked it. I am now learning how to swim of which I am enjoying at the moment though it is quite difficult for me but I know I will manage it by the end of my stay.
I can not believe that I am almost about to go back home, because it has been a long and tough journey for me. I cried for so many times whenever I was thinking of the month I will go back home. Therefore I am very happy that I have just remained with a short period of time for me to go back home. As the saying goes "Patience pays" I convinced and encouraged myself when I was troubled much about when I will go back home, that no matter what the time for me to go back home will come, therefore I should be patient. This saying really helped me to overcome homesickness.
I thank the EWE organization for introducing this organization between the Zambians and Germans youths because it has really helped me to have more interest and experience in what i am intending to do for my living. I also thank God that I am still in a good health from the time I came until now. I am happy and glad to report again once more in about my staying.
Thank you.
