<p>Lieber Guido und das Team, Ref: Ende des Freiwilligenprogramms
und zukünftige Zusammenarbeit </p>
<p>Herzliche Grüße an Sie. Es ist in der Tat bedauerlich, dass das
interkulturelle Austauschprogramm, das in den letzten 30 Jahren so
viel Leben und Wirkung gebracht hat, zu Ende geht. Es waren
erfahrungsreiche Jahre, in denen zahlreiche Leben direkt und
indirekt berührt wurden. Wir sind zwar traurig über die Beendigung
des Programms, hoffen aber, dass unsere Zusammenarbeit über das
Schulgeldprogramm hinaus auf andere Weise fortgesetzt werden kann.
Wir wollten moderne und innovative Ansätze zur Bewältigung der
Herausforderungen, mit denen die Jugendlichen konfrontiert sind,
erforschen und hofften, uns gemeinsam auf einen Prozess der
Entscheidungsfindung einlassen zu können. Wir verstehen jedoch die
schwierige Entscheidung, die bereits getroffen wurde und die uns
in eine Position der Akzeptanz versetzt. Dennoch sind wir stolz
auf die Auswirkungen, die dieses Projekt hatte, und auf die vielen
Menschen, deren Leben sich positiv verändert hat. Die Arbeit, die
wir gemeinsam geleistet haben, muss gefeiert werden, und wir
freuen uns darauf, neue Möglichkeiten zu finden, junge Menschen in
Sambia weiterhin zu unterstützen, insbesondere durch Bildungs- und
Ausbildungsprojekte. Wir wissen Ihr anhaltendes Engagement zu
schätzen und sind zuversichtlich, dass wir gemeinsam neue Wege
finden können, um den Bedürfnissen der Bedürftigen gerecht zu
werden. Ihre Unterstützung ist weiterhin von unschätzbarem Wert.

<p><b> Ref: End of Volunteer Program and Future Collaboration </b><br>
</p>
<p>Warm greetings to you.</p>
<p>It is indeed unfortunate that the intercultural exchange
program, which has brought so much life and impact over the
past 30 years, is coming to an end. These have been years rich
in experience, with numerous lives touched both directly and
indirectly. While we are saddened by this closure, we remain
hopeful that our collaboration will continue in other
meaningful ways beyond the school fee support program.</p>
<p>We desired to explore modern and innovative approaches to
address the challenges faced by the youth, and we hoped to
engage in a process of discernment together. However, we
understand the difficult decision that has already been made,
which leaves us in a position of acceptance.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, we are proud of the impact this project has had
and the many people whose lives have been positively changed.
The work we have accomplished together is something to be
celebrated, and we look forward to finding new opportunities
to continue supporting young people in Zambia, particularly
through educational and training projects.</p>
<p>We appreciate your continued commitment, and we are confident
that, together, we can explore new avenues to address the
needs of the vulnerable. Your support remains invaluable.</p>

der ewe-Vorstand im
Mai den für uns alle
schmerzlichen
Entschluss fassen
den interkulturellen
Austausch von
sambischen und
deutschen
Freiwilligen nach 28
Jahren zu beenden.</span></span></p>
<p
style="margin-bottom:0cm"><span style="font-size:16px"><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">Susanne Moll, die wie ich
2001 zum ewe kam und
von 2002 -2007 die
Begleitung der
deutschen
Freiwilligen
verantwortet hat,
hat diesen
Freiwilligendienst
mal das Herz des ewe
genannt. 20
erfolgreiche Jahre
schlug dieses Herz
regelmäßig und
kräftig. </span> </span></p>
<p
style="margin-bottom:0cm"><span style="font-size:16px"><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">Das dahinterstehende Konzept
des Austausches und
intensivem
Kennenlernen der
anderen Kultur durch
das mitleben in
Familien, war ein
Alleinstellungsmerkmal
in unseren
internationalen
Freiwilligendiensten.
</span> </span></p>
<p
style="margin-bottom:0cm"><span style="font-size:16px"><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">Ab 2015 mussten wir aber
feststellen, dass
immer weniger
deutsche Jugendliche
sich für diesen
besonderen
Freiwilligendienst
in Sambia
interessierten,
bzw., dass sie sich
dies nicht
zutrauten. Waren es
zu Hoch-Zeiten in
den Nuller-Jahren
bis zu 35
Interessent_innen,
von denen wir
jeweils 8-12 zum
Auswahlwochenende
einluden, so hatten
wir trotz hohem
Werbe- und
Informationsaufwand
zuletzt mal gerade 2
Interessentinnen,
die dann aber ihre
Bewerbung
zurückzogen, weil
sie sich den Dienst
nicht zutrauten. Das
Herz des ewe kam aus
dem Rhythmus und die
Corona-Pandemie war
ein massiver
Einschnitt, sodass
danach nur noch ein
Einsatz stattfand
mit Johanna, die
2023 wieder
zurückkam.</span></span></p>
<p
style="margin-bottom:0cm"><span style="font-size:16px"><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">Dazu kam, dass die
administrativen und
finanziellen
Rahmenbedingungen
für die
Freiwilligendienste
insbesondere uns als
ehrenamtliche
Verantwortlichen die
Arbeit sehr
erschwert hat und
das in beide
Richtungen. Außerdem
hat die zunehmende
und bewusst vom
rechten politischen
Rand populistisch
aufgeheizte
Fremdenfeindlichkeit
und die in Folge
erschwerten
Bedingungen für die
Einreise es
insbesondere für
sambische
Jugendliche schwer
gemacht überhaupt
ein Visum zu
bekommen und uns für
sichere Arbeits- und
Lebensbedingungen zu
sorgen.</span></span></p>
<p

Natalie bei einem
Austausch ehemalig
Verantwortlicher für
die deutschen
Freiwilligen zur
Situation in den
Freiwilligendiensten
des ewe, war eine
schmerzliche, aber
treffende
Erkenntnis, sodass
der Vorstand die
Notbremse ziehen
musste, ehe wir für
eine
Neuzertifizierung
als weltwärts-
Entsendeorganisation
viel Geld und vor
allem viel
ehrenamtliche Arbeit
investieren mussten.</span></span></p>
<p

style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">In den verständnisvollen
Reaktionen
insbesondere
ehemaliger
Freiwilliger kam
immer wieder zum
Ausdruck, wie
wertvoll sie im
Nachhinein ihren
Dienst empfinden und
wie dankbar sie
sind, dass das
eine-welt-engagement
und seine Partner in
Sambia dies
ermöglicht haben.</span></span></p>
<p

style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">RESPECTING, SHARING and LEARNING waren für
63 deutsche und 27
sambische
Freiwillige seit
1996 Leitwort für
ein Jahr leben und
arbeiten in einer
fremden Kultur, in
Gastfamilien und
sozialen
Einrichtungen. <br>
Das wollen wir
heute feiern!</span></span></span></p>

und Hartnäckigkeit
im Umgang mit den
unterschiedlichen
Administrationen
hat uns anderen im
Vorstand
Zuversicht und dem
Incoming-Dienst
des ewe Halt und
konzeptionelle
Sicherheit
gegeben. - und den
sambischen
Freiwilligen
familiären
Rückhalt gegeben.<br>
Das
eine-welt-engagement
ist nicht am Ende,
wir setzen andere
Akzente in der
Förderung von
Ausbildungsprojekten
für sambische
Jugendliche
zusammen mit
unserem Partner
Caritas der
Diözese Monze.</span></span></span></p>

years of ewe
voluntary services
incoming and
outgoing</b></span></h2>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">As you all know, in May the
ewe board had to make
the painful decision
to end the
intercultural exchange
programme between
Zambian and German
volunteers after 28
years.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">Susanne Moll, who, like me,
joined ewe in 2001 and
was responsible for
supervising the German
volunteers from 2002
to 2007, once called
this volunteer service
the heart of ewe. For
20 successful years,
this heart beat
regularly and
strongly. </span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">The underlying concept of
exchange and intensive
cultural learning by
living with a family
was a unique feature
of our international
volunteer service. </span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">From 2015 onwards, however,
we noticed that fewer
and fewer young
Germans were
interested in this
particular volunteer
service in Zambia, or
that they did not feel
confident enough to
apply. At the peak of
the programme in the
2000s, we had up to 35
interested applicants,
of whom we invited
8-12 to a selection
weekend. Despite
extensive advertising
and information
efforts, we recently
had just 2 interested
applicants, but they
then withdrew their
applications because
they did not feel up
to the service. The
heart of the ewe lost
its rhythm and the
Corona pandemic was a
massive turning point,
so that after that
only one assignment
took place with
Johanna, who returned
in 2023.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">In addition, the
administrative and
financial conditions
for volunteer
services, especially
for us as volunteer
leaders, made our work
very difficult in both
directions. In
addition, the
increasing and
deliberately populist
xenophobia from the
right-wing fringe of
politics and the
resulting more
difficult conditions
for entry have made it
particularly difficult
for young people from
Zambia to even get a
visa and for us to
ensure safe working
and living conditions.</span></p>

style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">This intervention by Natalie
at an exchange of
former leaders of the
German volunteers for
the situation in the
volunteer services of
the ewe was a painful
but apt realisation,
so that the board had
to pull the emergency
brake before we had to
invest a lot of money
and, above all, a lot
of volunteer work for
a re-certification as
a weltwärts sending
organisation.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">The understanding reactions,
especially from former
volunteers, repeatedly
expressed how valuable
they feel their
service was in
retrospect and how
grateful they are that
the
one-welt-engagement
and its partners in
Zambia made this
possible.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">RESPECTING, SHARING and
LEARNING have been the
guiding principles for
63 German and 27
Zambian volunteers
since 1996 for a year
of living and working
in a foreign culture,
in host families and
social institutions. </span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">We want to celebrate that
today!</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">I am very happy that so many
of you have come here,
some of you from far
away, to see people
again after such a
long time with whom
you shared these
experiences, to
exchange pictures,
anecdotes and
memories... and we
want to give you the
space to do that.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">But our meeting today is also
an opportunity to
remember those who,
through their
voluntary commitment,
made the volunteer
work possible in the
first place. I can
appreciate how much
work and how much
heart and soul you
have put into making
the volunteer services
possible.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">Thank you Susanne, Monika,
Natalie, Gesine,
Helen, Yoko and Aline!

style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">And of course a very warm
thank you to Irmela,
who is now leaving the
board after 15 years
of responsibility for
the deployment,
induction, support and
host families of the
Zambian volunteers.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">Your unwavering optimism when
it came to finding
host families, your
caring and empathetic
support of the Zambian
volunteers, your
culturally sensitive
expertise, and yes,
your stubbornness and
persistence in dealing
with the various
administrations gave
us others on the board
confidence and the ewe
incoming service
support and conceptual
security – and gave
the Zambian volunteers
family support.<br>
ewe is not at an end.
We are setting
different priorities
in the funding of
training projects for
young Zambians
together with our
partner Caritas of the
Diocese of Monze.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">The SCHULFEE project, which
has been running for
10 years and was
initiated by German
and Zambian students,
was described by
Caritas director
Solomon Phiri, who
unfortunately died of
corona 3 years ago, as
the most successful
project of our
partnership.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">And with this in mind, we
will continue to
develop further
project ideas in line
with the idea of a
one-world commitment,
which will give young
people in Zambia a
chance of education
and training.</span></p>
<p><span
style="font-family:Bahnschrift,sans-serif">To do this, we continue to
need your financial
and moral support.</span></p>
